  • Introduction (10 minutes): Setting the tone, addressing limitations when discussing race, and exploring the difference between non-racist and anti-racist educators.
  • Building Understanding (50 minutes): Understanding racism at three levels, its impact on students’ mental health, and trauma-informed teaching approaches.
  • Practical Interventions (40 minutes): Engaging in a pyramid activity to identify microaggressions, learning intervention strategies, and making actionable commitments.

Training is available in-person during INSET days or online via Zoom, ensuring flexibility for your school’s schedule.

Racial Literacy & Microaggression Training

What We Cover

Our main goal of the Teacher Training module is to highlight some key anti-racist training that relates directly to schools and the education industry. We teach many of the key concepts that we teach the students, in our student-facing workshop and mirror the same learning so there is a holistic approach throughout the whole school.

We can offer training in-person during staff INSET days, and also online training via Zoom, to suit your school and its schedule.

The Module is split up into 3 main areas:

Part 1: Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Setting the tone
  • Common limitations when talking about race
  • Non-Racist Educator vs Anti-Racist Educator

Part 2: Building Understanding (50 minutes)

  • Develop understanding of ‘racism’ and its 3 levels
  • Understanding how racism affects a young person’s mental health
  • Understanding what trauma-informed teaching can look like in a classroom.

Part 3: Activity 1 – Practicing Interventions (40 minutes)

  • Pyramid Activity – Recognising Microaggressions & Early Signs of Racism within the School Environment
  • Exploring Teacher Interventions – Public Interventions vs Private Interventions
  • Discussions
