Safeguarding Through an Anti-Racist Lens

This CPD-accredited training equips educators, SLT, safeguarding leads, governors, and teaching staff with the tools to protect students from race-based abuse and harm. Designed for both Primary and Secondary settings, this workshop explores racism as a safeguarding issue and helps schools develop effective and transparent procedures for addressing racist incidents. Delivered by expert facilitators, the session integrates discussions and activities to facilitate learning and drive actionable change.

Key Highlights:

• Introduction (10 minutes): Setting the tone and addressing common challenges when discussing race.
• Racism in Safeguarding (15 minutes): Understanding racial trauma, disparities in safeguarding, and the associated risks to mental and physical health.
• Biases and Stereotypes (40 minutes): Exploring types of biases in education, addressing unconscious bias, overcoming communication barriers, and examining case studies of racism as a safeguarding issue.
• Strategising for Change (30 minutes): Developing policies and practices for change and participating in a workshop to strategize anti-racist safeguarding solutions for your school.

With over 60,000 racist incidents recorded in UK schools from 2016–2021 (Guardian, 2021), this training provides critical insights and strategies to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students. Available in-person during INSET days or online via Zoom for your convenience.
